Nikajoma 

Toys are entertainment tools normally used by children to kill boredom. There is a huge variety of toys in this world, and there is a certain kind of toy called mechanical toys. Our team from Vågen VGS 1KDAA, Nikajoma, comprised of Nilo, Karine, Jakob and Marthe were assigned a task to construct four of these types of toys and then make a poster for them. Constructing the toys and the poster was only the main part of the task. We were also tasked with making multiple rough sketches for ideas, and choosing an idea we were content with and making more refined and detailed plans. The mechanical toys were required to have a common theme, a purpose, a target audience, and a 3D printed part, but before all this we had to figure out what a mechanical toy was. Apparently, a mechanical toy is a toy powered by mechanical energy. You pull or swing something that makes the toy move. They can perform a wide range of motions depending on the mechanism, from simple to very complex. There are different kinds of movements: Going around in a circle, moving up and down and moving backwards and forwards in a curve, but these are only the basic motions. Although the toys might look advance, the toys are simpler than one might think. The toys are easy to make and even a child can create one at home. You can decide for yourself what the toy is going to be. You can make anything. Only your fantasy can stop you. Mechanical toys are for all generations, whether it be children, teenagers and adults, but our target demographic are children. Our group had decided on the demographic, children, since toys are generally used by children. Even though we had our target audience, we still needed a theme and a purpose for our toys. The theme we chose was fantasy/fairy tale, because we thought it would be appealing to kids. The purpose for the toys were obviously entertain children. With a theme, purpose and target audience, we still needed the 3D printed parts. 3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file using a 3D printer. A 3D-printer can use different materials, but the most commonly used materiel is plastic. Before you use your plastic, you first must make a digital model of the object you want to create. This virtual design is E. G. a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. This file is created using a 3D scanner or making a model with tools given to you by the CAD program. Since we did not have a 3D scanner at our disposal, we were needed to create our own models from scratch. Making a 3D models from scratch can be a daunting task at first, but luckily, we received classes in 3D modelling in advance, before the project had started. Not only that, but Nilo also had done digital 3D modelling in the past. At the start of this project we were uncomfortable using 3D programs, but as time passed on, we grew familiar with the computer tools. We had learned several new programs. All members of our group had learned how use either TinkerCAD or Fusion 360.  Jakub: 3D printing is becoming increasingly popular these days, it is getting faster and more accurate. 3d printing is printing out 3d figures out of plastic, you can 3d print every possible figure in plastic. However, it takes a lot of time to print larger objects and the 3d printer is still expensive. I have chosen to use tinker cad as a program to design my 3d printed features for my armored horse. I have designed a golden armor reinforced, that would ensure enough protection for my horse. It has a star like form and it is 3d, its designed to have a golden color. I have glued it onto my horse`s plate armor so it would give even more protection. I have learned how to design things in 3d both in tinker cad and sculptures. Furthermore, I have learned how to set measures to fit my needs and later set a 3d printer to print my objects.  Marthe Kristine: I have made a very beautiful mechanical toy. It is a princess in a tower and she is moving up and down. In the making process, I have used a lot of different types of material. One of them was a cone made by a 3D printer. I used the 3D printer to make the roof of the tower. I designed it on www.tincercard.com . I used this program because then I did not have to make a new shape. The program already had a cone – shaped object in its system. I just had to change the length, height and width. I needed the cone to be very big so it took 6 hours to make it. I have learned to use 3D printer programs. Karine: I chose to 3d-print the gear, I chose to make the most difficult thing to make by hand. And I had to be precisely so it would work. I used tinker card first and then I exported it to a sfi file. And after that I put the file in cura. Cura was a little harder to use but it worked, however I preferred to use tinker card. In this assignment I learn how to make a mechanical toy and also how to 3dprint.
