Design group 3

Framanto

We are Framanoto ,a group of creative students. Franciszek, Marte, Nora og Thomas. Class 1KDAA vaagen highschool. Our task is make a collection of mechanical toys for a company that we made up, named Framanoto. A mechanical toy moves with the help of moving gears with the help of a crank. Our company makes toys based on the idea of Momento mori, remember you will die, with the purpose of collection. The toys are aimed at young adults from 16+. 3D printing is a new technology that makes figures we made in a program becomes a physical object, for example figures like hats or chairs. We knew nothing about 3D printing in the beginning, but we have developed some knowledge, about programs we can use to make these figures and print them out. Programs like tinkercad, sculptress, 360 fusion and Kura. We now know how to do all this. Nora: I decided to use the printed part as a crank, because then I could get a cool design. The programs I used were tinkercad and cura, it was very easy after you learned a few simple steps. In this project I learned about mechanical toys, how to make something move without a motor or touching it with my hand. I also got to learn more about 3D-printing, which I think is very interesting. I learned how to use the programs like sculptress, tinkercad and cura. Thomas:  Individual writing about my Mechanical toy. For my 3D printed parts I used an online program by the name tinkercad for the sole reason of being the only program I knew of so actually worked for me as the others were crashing like a car with a dog as its driver. If the other programs would actually work for me I would still, choose tinkercad over the others as I am far more used and familiar with that program. The parts I printed out were used as the skull and a box(coffin) so that was out of the way and I could get to focus on the mechanical parts, and now I understand the mechanics in the toy better than when I started. The reason I chose the following colours red, green, black, white, grey shades is: Red- The reason I chose the colour red is because the colour red is associated with strong feelings. Death can bring forth strong feelings of sadness and grief as they know that they have lost a close friend knowing that a friend of theirs is dead Green- The reason I chose the colour green is associated as the hopes colour. Some people believe in a life after death or that they go to another place. This gives these people a hope of being able to meet loved ones again. White, black, and grey shades- The group I was in chose the theme to be “memento mori” (remember that you shall die) so I found it fitting to have black as it is associated with death, and white as death can be seen at as a peaceful sleep, and grey merely because I found I fitting with the two other colours black and white as people can have different opinions and/or similar opinions about death. The mechanic I chose was a rather simple and plain up and down mechanic. The wheel spinning around has a high end and a half high end, which makes the skull head appear to go up at first, but not fully up until it reaches the high end of the wheel as my toy is named “a deadly surprise” (10/10 naming skills). So people seeing it expects I to go up, but it doesn`t, and then suddenly! It pops up and pushing a metal (tin) trap door. This did not end well as I planned. Some difficulties happened such as preventing the skull head to move up. so I had to do something else with the metal (tin) parts. I still had to use the metal (tin) parts for something so I decided to use it as a decoration for the “coffin” and put them on the side instead, because there were no other use for them…
